Capt. Christopher A. Mitchell is currently an assistant professor of Aerospace Studies at Detachment 645 attached to The Ohio State University. He is the education officer at the detachment and spearheads academic planning for the 100+ cadets. He provides mentorship and guidance to the next generation of Air and Space Force leaders.
Capt. Mitchell received a Bachelor of Science in Management degree from The United States Air Force Academy in 2020 and entered the Space Force shortly thereafter with a direct commission through the United States Air Force Academy. He earned his Master of Finance degree from Liberty University in 2023 while on active duty.
His first assignment was under the chief of staff for the Space Production Corps at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. He served in a contract integration role spanning various ACAT I, II, and III programs for the entirety of the former Production Corps portfolio prior to his pivot to supporting the GPS program.
His next assignment was under the Position, Navigation, and Timing Integrated Mission Delta (Provisional). He was the deputy launch integration and operations chief for the GPS Block III/IIIF Programs housed at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. He led both day of launch operations as well as integration efforts on a team of more than 80 military, civilian, and contractor personnel who oversee the launch and operations of GPS III space vehicles which provide premier positioning, navigation, and timing data to over six billion military, allied, and civilian users worldwide. He led the successful launch of the sixth GPS Block III satellite to Medium Earth Orbit in Jan. 2023.
