Going Above and Beyond

One of the most desired traits of an AFROTC cadet is having the willingness to serve. Our cadets not only understand that they are signing up to serve their nation as members of the United States Air Force or United States Space Force when they graduate and commission, but also understand their call to give back to the local community. The cadets of Detachment 645 know that making the world a better place begins here and now.

Community Outreach

Detachment 645 cadets have given nearly 1,000 hours of their time to various organizations around Columbus. Some examples are:

Ronald McDonald House

The Columbus Ronald McDonald House is a temporary living facility for the families of children are inpatients at any of the Columbus metropolitan hospitals. Led by the Arnold Air Society, cadets perform general housekeeping at the facility to ensure a more comfortable place for the guests who are going through troubled times. Sometimes, cadets are able to interact with the residents by providing words of encouragement or just taking a moment to listen to their stories.

Run the Race

Run the Race is an after-school program for inner-city Columbus children ages 4-18. Cadets play games, do crafts, eat and just talk with all the children. The opportunity is hosted by Arnold Air Society and provides our cadets the opportunity to provide support and inspiration to children that come from differing backgrounds.

Memorial to the Fallen

This annual 12-hour event is modeled after the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The event is led by Arnold Air Society but is open to the entire wing. Through this event, we honor and venerate all those who have served and fallen.
