Major Beau S. Haertling is assistant professor of Aerospace Studies, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Detachment 645, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. He recruits, trains, motivates and counsels highly qualified young men and women as prospective Air Force and Space Force Officers. Haertling promotes Air Force and Space Force career opportunities to university and high school students, faculty, parents and administrators. He also instructs college courses, developing first-year cadets and educating them on the foundation of the U.S. Department of the Air Force.
Major Haertling first entered active duty as an Enlisted Airman in 2002 serving six years as an Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems Technician. He commissioned through the Air Force’s Basic Officer Training School as a Computer Developmental Engineer in May 2013. Major Haertling’s first commissioned assignment was to the 346th Testing Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, TX. During his tenure, he led in a variety of roles, including Capabilities Assessment Program Officer-in-Charge and TEMPEST Flight Commander managing Operational Testing for future Air Force Cyber Defensive Weapon Systems. Major Haertling’s following assignment was to the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, where he served as the program manager for the lab’s Human Language Technology Program and also had the opportunity to serve on the Laboratories Headquarters Command Staff.
